As usual obama had it wrong and Romney had it right, Obama accused Romney in tonights debate of saying to let GM go bankrupt with any government securities, Romney did say to take GM through a managed bankrupt with government guarantees…Obama shouts check the record, so we did….he is wrong, Romney never said he would liquidate the car industry…
1. OBAMA: The – look, I think anybody out there can check the record. Governor Romney, you keep on trying to, you know airbrush history here. You were very clear that you would not provide, government assistance to the U.S. auto companies, even if they went through bankruptcy. You said that they could get it in the private marketplace. That wasn’t true. They would have gone through a…
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: You’re wrong…
(CROSSTALK)
OBAMA: …they would have gone through a…
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: …you’re wrong.
(CROSSTALK)
OBAMA: No, I am not wrong. I am not wrong.
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: People can look it up, you’re right.
OBAMA: People will look it up.
ROMNEY: Good.
FACT:Romney did say government should provide guarantees for post bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk, he said in a managed bankruptcy the federal govt would propel newly competitive and viable automakers rather than seal their fate with a bailout check.. which is exactly where obama took them...http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/19/opinion/19romney.html
2, Romney said obama has shrieked our Navy’s boats obama reply, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military’s changed. Well actually obama the Navy still uses bayonets, often…they Tweeted that information tonight….
3. Romney said obama wanted to keep troops in Iran past the deadline, obama denied it and said that was not true, obama lied, Romney won this one too
the Obama administration would have liked to keep about 3,000 to 5,000 U.S. troops in Iraq beyond the end of this year but has not begun formal discussions with the Iraqis about the size or makeup of the force, U.S. officials said.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has expressed a desire to keep some U.S. trainers in the country in 2012, past the deadline negotiated by the George W. Bush administration to remove all U.S. troops from the country.
But the Iraqi leader faces staunch opposition from key members of his coalition government who are deeply opposed to any U.S. presence. Some members of the coalition have threatened to boycott the government if it allows any U.S. forces to stay. so it fell apart…http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/obama-wants-to-keep-3000-5000-us-troops-in-iraq-into-2012/2011/09/07/gIQAcnkhAK_story.html?tid=sm_twitter_washingtonpost
the discussion of it in the debate:
3. Romney: Number two, with regards to Iraq, you and I agreed I believe that there should be a status of forces agreement.
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: Oh you didn’t? You didn’t want a status of…
OBAMA: What I would not have had done was left 10,000 troops in Iraq that would tie us down. And that certainly would not help us in the Middle East.
ROMNEY: I’m sorry, you actually – there was a – there was an effort on the part of the president to have a status of forces agreement, and I concurred in that, and said that we should have some number of troops that stayed on. That was something I concurred with…
(CROSSTALK)
OBAMA: Governor…
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: …that your posture. That was my posture as well. You thought it should have been 5,000 troops…
(CROSSTALK)
OBAMA: Governor?
ROMNEY: … I thought there should have been more troops, but you know what? The answer was we got…
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: … no troops through whatsoever.
OBAMA: This was just a few weeks ago that you indicated that we should still have troops in Iraq.
ROMNEY: No, I…
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: …I’m sorry that’s a…
(CROSSTALK)
OBAMA: You – you…
ROMNEY: …that’s a – I indicated…
(CROSSTALK)
OBAMA: …major speech.
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: …I indicated that you failed to put in place a status…
(CROSSTALK)
OBAMA: Governor?
(CROSSTALK)
ROMNEY: …of forces agreement at the end of the conflict that existed.
OBAMA: You’ve got to be clear, both to our allies and our enemies, about where you stand and what you mean. You just gave a speech a few weeks ago in which you said we should still have troops in Iraq. That is not a recipe for making sure that we are taking advantage of the opportunities and meeting the challenges of the Middle East. check the link above
So does that mean obama was clear and meant what he said to Russia’s leader, I will have more flexibility after I am re-elected…. hmmm
Then Romney goes on to school obama, yet again….
ROMNEY: We’re four years closer to a nuclear Iran. We’re four years closer to a nuclear Iran. And – and – we should not have wasted these four years to the extent they – they continue to be able to spin these centrifuges and get that much closer. That’s number one.
Number two, Mr. President, the reason I call it an apology tour is because you went to the Middle East and you flew to Egypt and to Saudi Arabia and to Turkey and Iraq. And by the way, you skipped Israel, our closest friend in the region, but you went to the other nations.
And by the way, they noticed that you skipped Israel. And then in those nations, and on Arabic TV, you said that America had been dismissive and derisive. You said that on occasion America had dictated to other nations.
Mr. President, America has not dictated to other nations. We have freed other nations from dictators.
