Iowa Lations Form Coaliton For Romney

Republican Mitt Romney’s campaign today announced the Iowa leadership team of “Juntos Con Romney.”

Although the team has been organizing for some time, the announcement follows publication Wednesday of a statement by President Barack Obama to The Des Moines Register that he thinks Republicans have alienated Latino voters.

In a written statement today, the chairman of the new Iowa group, John Ortega, said: “President Obama has let down Hispanics in Iowa and across the country. Four years ago, he promised he would create millions of new jobs, stop runaway government spending, and reform our broken immigration system by the end of his first term. On all these counts, he has failed, and now he won’t offer any new solutions to get America working again.

Ortega said Romney will create “millions of new jobs in his first term alone, reduce the tax burden on middle class families, put our country back on the path to a balanced budget, and act to reform our immigration system. Latinos know the right choice for president is Mitt Romney because we want to build a stronger America and create an easier pathway to the middle class.”

Elizabeth Purchia, a press secretary for the Obama campaign in Iowa, said she thinks it’s too little, too late for the Romney campaign.

“With less than two weeks until the election, the Romney campaign is just now reaching out to Iowa’s Latino community and it shows how little they understand their priorities and concerns,” Purchia said. “Since the beginning, the Obama campaign has been talking with Latinos and all Iowans about the clear choice in this election between Mitt Romney and President Obama, who is fighting for a future where everyone who works hard and does their fair share gets a shot at the American dream.”
