Blatant ignorance is alive and well at the Republican Convention and it has cost one guy his job. David Chalian, Yahoo News Washington bureau chief was caught making a horrible comment on “hot mic” during live coverage of the GOP Convention, Chalian said:
“Mitt Romney and his wife are happy to have a party, with black people drowning” he was referring to hurricane Issac.
I guess David Chalian thought the Romney’s had the power to stop the rain, or could go down and stop the floods, which begs the question, why was Chalian not in Louisiana instead of Florida? Further more the news has reported the storm so far is responsible for 2 deaths, which were not due to drowning…
Chailian was fired as he should have been, and Yahoo is apologizing to Romney and his supporters assuring all that Chalians remark was inappropriate and does not represent Yahoo’s views.
Now maybe Chailian will get first hand experience of obamanomics and how hard it is to find a job in the economy his has destroyed.
Chalian’s words were first caught by the conservative media criticism site Newsbusters. Chalian has posted a public apology on his Facebook page, saying his intention was to mock the situation, not Romney. From the brief clip, the context of Chalian’s words is unknown.
“I am profoundly sorry for making an inappropriate and thoughtless “joke”,” he wrote. “I was commenting on the challenge of staging a convention during a hurricane and about campaign optics. I have apologized to the Romney campaign, and I want to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to Gov. and Mrs. Romney. I also regret causing any distraction from the exceptional coverage of the Republican convention by Yahoo News and ABC News.”
I for one do not think for one minute Chailian was joking
